Escape from Quarantine

Those who got away from their infected towns usually went to towns of which the infection was not commonly known so they could stay without arising suspicion. They would assure whomever they were staying with that they did not have the infection and that they only needed to stay a short while. One man who escaped did just this but soon after finding a place to lodge died from the infection and it was spread immediately to houses nearby bringing this town into distress of the plague.

Dismal Scenes

Many of the infected were growing increasingly mad, crazy, with the disease. For there was no cure or medicine to make it better. People were just dyeing, painfully all over. Many would scream from their windows and shout things about death since they knew it was going to happen and soon. People were taking extreme measures such as throwing themselves from buildings, shooting themselves, killing nearby bystanders, and running around neurotically trying to reach water. The physicians and surgeons did not know how to treat this disease, they even seemed to torture the infected to try and figure out a solution. The Surgeons then figured that if they could bring the swellings up and digest the patient that the patient generally could recover. Others still could not be helped and broke out with apoplexies and epilepsies and later would most likely be dead soon after. Some who were infected were unaware and they just seemed to grow faint and die as though they were unaware of it, somewhat peacefully it seems.

Infection

The infection spread so rapidly because those who had the disease were unaware of it. They would continue about their merry little days moving around and traveling until a few days later, as many as seven days, when they started to show symptoms. All the people they have encountered in their unknowing infected time period would also become infectious unknowingly. The infected people would then get skin spots, after the seven day waiting period, called gangrene or mortified skin. They would then only have about 6 hours to live and all of their possessions were contagious.
